The President of the Kuwaiti Red Crescent Society, Dr. Hilal Al-Sayer, announced, Friday, that the Society has signed an international cooperation agreement to provide urgent aid in northern Syria to those affected by the earthquake, at a value of five million US dollars.

Al-Sayer told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that, as a first stage, it was agreed with the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent and the International Committee of the Red Cross, in addition to the Qatar Red Crescent, to provide urgent humanitarian aid in northern Syria, which actually started there, reports Al-Qabas daily.

He added that the agreement, which entered into force, includes the provision of food and medical supplies, in addition to assistance in providing shelter and housing for people affected by the effects of the earthquake, stressing that the agreement came in response to the emergency appeal of the ICRC and Red Crescent.

He explained that the agreement aims to help families, children, injured, and people with special needs and the elderly, pointing out that this agreement is part of the humanitarian projects of the association and a continuation of the humanitarian message of the State of Kuwait.

He stated that these initiatives and humanitarian aid were launched after the royal directives of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, to support those affected by the earthquake in Turkey and northern Syria, expressing his thanks to the Ministries of Defense, Foreign Affairs and Social Affairs for their cooperation with the Society and harnessing all its capabilities in order to facilitate the mission of the Society.

Al-Sayer also affirmed that the State of Kuwait, leadership and people, stand with the brothers in their great affliction, calling on individuals and all actors in civil society and the private sector to donate and provide aid to mitigate the effects of the devastating earthquake.

It is noteworthy that the Kuwait Red Crescent Society has so far sent about 90 tons of humanitarian aid to alleviate the impact of the devastating earthquake on the afflicted people there.
