The Kuwait Oil Company (KOC)  to award its largest environmental project ever to clean up the polluted soil. The 5 major packages are worth more than KD 1. Billion, Al Anbaa daily reported.

The Central Agency for Public Tenders has agreed to award the five packages to local and international companies. The contracts will be officially signed of the largest project in the world within the next two weeks.

The sources told the daily that the North Kuwait Drilling, Transport, and Processing Project is divided into two sites with a value of USD 381.58 million. The first site (zone 1) was awarded to the alliance of Khaled Ali Al-Kharafi and Brothers for Construction Contracting with the Lamor Corporation corresponding to the terms and specifications for a total amount of USD 193.58 million.

The second site (zone 2) was awarded to the Kuwaiti Company for Plant Construction and Contracting with the Environmental Technology Management Company (lowest prices) in compliance with the terms and specifications, for a total amount of USD 188 million.

The sources stated that it was approved to award the South Kuwait project for drilling, transport, and processing as follows:

Zone 1 to the alliance of Khaled Ali Al-Kharafi and Brothers for Construction Contracting with the Lamor Corporation in conformity with the terms and specifications for a total amount of USD 196.53 million.

The second zone of the Heavy Engineering Industries and Shipbuilding Company with the alliance of Zaopin st Co Ltd, with a total amount of USD 185.23 million.

The third region (zone 3) was the alliance of Al-Sayer Construction Company for General Trading and Contracting with Water & Soil Remediation under the specifications and technical conditions, with a total amount of USD 250.6 million.

The Kuwait Oil Company has worked to develop a comprehensive environmental program called “Comprehensive Rehabilitation Solutions” at a value of nearly two billion dollars, which includes several projects for soil rehabilitation and environmental reclamation, and covers all affected areas and sectors within the company’s scope of work, as these projects are expected to be implemented within a decade.

The sources stated that by awarding the tenders for soil rehabilitation, Kuwait Oil Company is moving forward towards achieving its strategic objectives related to environmental affairs through the application of environmental initiatives and standards.

These projects are known as drilling, transport, and treatment in northern Kuwait, and the United Nations’ South Kuwait Exploration, Transport and Processing Project, and it is expected to treat approximately 13 million cubic meters of oil-contaminated soil. The claim relates to soil damage, including lakes. Moist and dry oil, as well as oil-contaminated piles. The region includes 114 square kilometers of land contaminated with crude oil, as a result of the destruction of nearly 700 oil wells in Kuwait. The fires took nearly a year to bring under control.

The sources pointed out that the projects that are being dealt with as part of the environmental treatment program have been subjected to significant delays and cancellations. In 2019, the Kuwait Oil Company canceled a tender for a contract to clean between 200 and 300 thousand square meters of contaminated soil, and the canceled tender required contractors to be clear. Specification The use of biological treatment techniques, instead of burying the contaminated soil, but the contract was canceled for legal reasons.
