Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC) declared on Saturday the finalizing of the establishment of the first of three temporary housing sites for sheltering expatriate workers.

The KNPC has pledged to set up these housing sites as a contribution to the state efforts to stem the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

The deputy chief executive officer for enterprise, the company official spokesperson, Abdullah Al- Ajmi, said the site is located in district of Ardiyah, which can accommodate 1,590 persons and its capacity can be increased to 3,190.

Al-Ajmi added that the other housing shelters, one situated in South Al-Sabbahiya and the other in Al-Jahra, would be equipped in coming days, where the capacity of the three centers would reach 4,252 persons, and can be upgraded to 8,332.

The KNPC will maintain these sites, secure water and power generators for the units before handing them over to the cabinet-affiliated quarantine commission to determine how to use them.

The KNPC had indicated that it built the housing sites to help in resolving problems related housing expats over coronavirus fears, noting that occupied flats and houses with expatriate workers are a major challenge in face of efforts to contain coronavirus.
