The Kuwait Institute for Medical Specialization (KIMS) and Nice University Hospital have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that will establish a framework between both parties on the provision of training programs for Kuwaiti healthcare professionals.

The MoU, which runs until mid-2026, was signed by His Excellency Dr. Fawaz AlRefaee, General Secretary of KIMS and Charles Guépratte, Chief Executive Officer of Nice University Hospital. Present to witness the signing were high-level officials that included His Excellency the Minister of Health Sheikh Dr. Basil Hammoud Al-Sabah, Her Excellency Anne-Claire Legendre, the Ambassador of France to the State of Kuwait, and Jean Paul Scheuer, Sanofi General Manager for Greater Gulf.

Renowned for its specialization especially in complicated surgeries, diabetes management, gastroenterology, the training programs, deployed locally with the support of sanofi, will leverage on the knowledge, expertise and experience of Nice University Hospital. They will include short-term training sessions, fellowship trainings, master classes and workshops.

Charles Guépratte said: “We have a long-standing relationship with KIMS, and over the years, we have seen an increase in the number of healthcare professionals trained at the hospital. We are a pioneer in medical training, and we look forward to welcoming Kuwaiti healthcare professionals. Extending our knowledge and expertise, we are proud of these programs that will truly reflect excellence and innovation in the provision of healthcare services. We thank again the MOH and KIMS for giving us the opportunity to participate with them to the promotion of Kuwait excellence of care”.

His Excellency the Minister of Health Sheikh Dr. Basil Hammoud Al-Sabah said: “Today we celebrate the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Kuwait Institute for Medical Specialties and Nice University Hospital in the French Republic. This MoU will lead to more training opportunities for Kuwaiti doctors in French hospitals, an increase in the number of study places, postgraduate medical studies, cooperation and exchange of experiences in the fields of research, training and joint scientific programs that will improve understanding and cooperation between the State of Kuwait and the French Republic”.

With Nice University Hospital’s robust medical training programs, the MoU provides KIMS’ medical professionals an opportunity to further refine their skills, stay up to date with the latest developments within their specialty, gain professional growth and provide high-quality care.

Her Excellency Anne Claire Legendre, French ambassador to the State of Kuwait said: “This MoU provides for specialized training of Kuwaiti doctors in France and open new promising areas of collaboration. The healthcare sector is a priority for the cooperation between France and Kuwait. The Kuwaiti authorities as well as the people value greatly the French medical expertise and we are determined to support the Kuwaiti authorities in their efforts to build stronger at home medical capacities. “

The French delegation also seized this opportunity to engage discussions for ways of cooperation in the nursing programs and further collaborations.
