Some KD 181.2 million have been included in the 2023-2024 state budget for new segments covered by the recently passed revised health insurance law for retirees, known as Afya law, said Deputy Prime Minister and Oil Minister Saad Al-Barrak
Wednesday.

Al-Barrak, who doubles as Minister of State for Economic and Investment Affairs and Acting Minister of Finance, made the remark during a parliamentary session on economic and financial conditions and the new fiscal year.

He elaborated that it would take three months to include the amount to cover the new categories of the revised insurance law, citing relevant procedures by the Ministry of Health. Regarding civil servants’ pay and salaries, the minister underlined that it is essential to
address pay differences on the basis of the justice and efficiency principle.

The minister vowed that the government would commit itself to ensuring that this principle is put in place.However, he stressed that based on Kuwait Vision 2035, the government would seek to develop and diversify the country’s non-oil resources and to create more than 250,000 jobs in the 15 years to come.

For his part, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs and Minister of State for National Assembly Affairs Issa Al-Kandari said that MPs’ remarks in this regard would be taken into account.

He also emphasized that the government would keep making political, economic and administrative reforms and fighting corruption.
