The Ministry of Health (MOH) has allocated KD 1.2 million for importing ‘Remdesivir’, a drug used for treating patients infected with COVID-19 reports Al-Qabas daily.

This decision was the result of the ministry’s keenness to provide the best and most modern medicines and medical equipment to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic before and after the crisis.

The sources told the daily that, the Remdesivir drug is used for the treatment of COVID-19 patients in the general wards of the hospitals. It is not given to intensive care patients.

It is recommended to patients with mild to moderate symptoms, as well as those who reach the stage of severe pneumonia and have low oxygen levels.

The medicine is administered by injecting the patient. It also reduces the duration of treatment for COVID19 symptoms to about a third.

It is given to COVID-19 patients who are adults and children aged 12 and above, and those weighing 40 kilograms or more. It is the first drug that showed relative effectiveness in reducing the number of recovery days for the patient.
