The College Alumni Fest ‘Kalalaya Varnangal 2019’ conducted by Mavelikara Bishop Moor College Alumni Association Kuwait Chapter on the occasion of the Golden Jubilee of the college, will be held on Friday, 12 April, announced the organizers at the press conference.
The program, which will be held at the Smart Indian School Auditorium at Jeleeb Al-Shuyoukh, will start at 5 pm. The ‘Guru Vandanam’, dedicated to renowned cartoonist and former English Department Head of the college, Prof. V.C. John is the main program at the event. He will be presented a ‘Guru Shreshta Award 2019’ during the proceedings.
Prof. V.C. John, who hails from Kottayam Thazhathangadi, became the foster son of Mavelikara when he started his career as an English teacher in the college in 1964. He has drawn over 20,000 cartoons.
The cartoons which started in 1960 in K Balakrishnan’s Kaumudi still continues to make a mark in the cultural activities of Mavelikkara.
The event will also showcase a ‘Musical Fusion’ by Udayan Anchal and Josy Alappuzha and team and ‘Sangeetha Nisha’ by college alumni Rajeev Kodambally and Lekha Shyam, which intend to add fervour to the event.
The awards for the Best Teacher and Best Student will continue in the coming years too, said the organizers. The alumni have been vigilant in finding students who have lost their houses in the floods that affected Kerala last year and provide a helping hand to come back to their normal life.
The Bishop Moor College Alumni Association Kuwait which started in 1998 was not very active, but has made a strong entry in Kuwait since 2013.
