Revealing uncharacteristic tenacity, the joint committee that was formed to cleanup Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh and remove all violations is continuing its work steadfastly. The results of these endeavors are already visible in many parts of this area.

The joint committee comprises personnel from the Municipality working in coordination with the ministries of Interior, Public Works and, Electricity and Water, as well as the Public Authority for Manpower.

In the latest news on the cleanup process, Kuwait Municipality has renewed its warning to real estate owners in the area to take down all illegal structures erected on their premises and remove modifications made without permission on their properties. The municipality added that electricity that had been cut to violating buildings earlier will be restored only after all unlicensed structures are removed.

The committee is continuing to intensify its campaign and is now concentrating on Block 5, Street 55 where the supervisory bodies of Farwaniya Municipality Branch, in cooperation with the Public Authority for Manpower and the Ministry of Interior had implemented a comprehensive campaign a couple of days ago. That campaign had resulted in the permanent closure of many shops and removal of a variety of violating canopies and roadblocks, in addition to issuing warnings to real estate owners violating building regulations.

One of the problems the cleanup team encountered related to the temporary markets that spring up all over the area. Because they had no permanent address, it was difficult to close them down as these markets could open up anywhere at an instant’s notice.

Figures from the cleanup campaign show that the Municipality’s Department of Public Hygiene lifted 36 tons of waste and 15 tons of used tires and moved them to the reservation site. In addition, they confiscated two lorry-load of vegetables and fruits from informal markets, and took action against illegal butchers who were operating without any license.

Meanwhile, the Audit and Follow-up Department of the Municipality closed 16 shops and cafes after completing all legal procedures, in addition to issuing 5 citations against opening of shops before approval from the municipality.

The officials also detected an unlicensed carpentry shop and a bakery, and completed legal proceedings against them, while the Department of Demolition of Illegal Structures removed 23 commercial umbrellas established on state property and 25 ground barriers, and issued 12 citations against violating stores.

For its part, the Public Authority for Manpower issued 38 labor-related citations, and legal procedures will be finalized to carry out administrative deportation, while the Ministry of Electricity and Water disconnected power and water to properties found in violation of the law.
