Four women as municipal council members is 'historic precedent'

The Assistant Undersecretary for Sanitary Engineering Affairs Engineer Walid Al-Ghanim will head a work team to check and validate the Kuwaitization policy that was introduced in contracts, agreements and projects of the Ministry of Public Works, Aljarida daily reported. The team was set up on the approval of the Minister of Public Works and State Minister for Housing Affairs Dr. Rana Al-Faris.

Under the decision, a comprehensive plan is being decided on to push the Kuwaitization policy into action in coordination with the concerned authorities and looking into the policy’s implementation within relevant contracts and agreements, while maintaining the beneficial aspects of the Kuwaitization procedures.

Earlier in the year, Minister of State for Housing Affairs and Minister of Public Works, Rana Al Faris, ordered a halt to hiring expats, and called for non-renewal of foreign employees at the Public Authority for Housing Welfare (PAHW), and working out a plan to train nationals to replace them as part of the Kuwaitization policy.

In September, she terminated the contracts of the expat employees who hold administrative, legal, and technical positions in various departments. Foreigners account for nearly 3.4 million of Kuwait’s 4.8 million population.
