Chairman of the Kuwaiti Union of Women’s Associations (KUWA) Sheikha Fadia Saad Al-Abdullah Al-Sabah confirmed on Thursday that the crisis of the brutal Iraqi invasion of Kuwait was an important turning point in the life of Kuwaitis and their society.

Al-Sabah told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), on the anniversary of the invasion, that Kuwaitis have succeeded in winning the world’s appreciation out of their concrete role in resisting the invasion, within and out of Kuwait. Under the directives of late Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the late Father Amir Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah and help of Kuwaitis, the country was able to gain support of the international community and to triumph liberation.

She pointed out that the Kuwaiti’s support standing alongside their political leadership had a prominent role and a great impact on Kuwaiti diplomacy, which mobilized world opinion to put the plan of liberation in motion. She underscored the importance of recalling the role of prominent Kuwaiti women during the invasion.

Asrar Al-Gabandi, Wafaa Al-Amer and Suad Hasan are a few of the women known for their heroic and active stances in defiance of occupation, who dedicated their lives to the freedom of their home from brutal oppressors, Al-Sabah said. All who had expressed loyalty towards the Kuwaiti leadership and country paid the price with their own lives; however, sacrifices by Kuwait’s martyrs had contributed immensely to the country’s liberation in 1991. She thanked the wise political leadership led by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah AlAhmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad AlSabah.
