The Iraqi Football Association has apologized to the Kuwaiti soccer delegation for events of opening Gulf Cup ceremony that prevented it from entering the stadium to attend the opening ceremony of the of the 25th Arabian Gulf Cup tournament.

A local Arabic daily said, the Iraqi federation has expressed its deep regret that some organizational issues went out of hand during the opening ceremony.

The President of the Iraqi Federation, Adnan Darjal, apologized to the Kuwaiti delegation for the difficulties it faced in entering the Stadium which forced the representative of His Highness the Amir, the President of the Kuwaiti Olympic Committee, Sheikh Fahd Al-Nasser, the President of the Kuwaiti Federation and members of the Board of Directors to not attend the ceremony.

Darjal expressed his deep regret and stressed the Iraqi Federation, as well as those in charge of organizing the tournament, will take into account the need to avoid such incidents to ensure that smooth organizational process, saying what happened in terms of organizational matters will not affect the strength of the relationship between Iraq and Kuwait, especially at the sports level.

He pointed out that the Kuwaiti Federation was one of the strongest supporters of holding the tournament in the city of Basra, whether through the visit of the President of the Federation, Abdullah Al-Shaheen, and his accompanying delegation, to the two tournament stadiums, about three weeks before it was held, or by the presence of the national team to meet the Iraqi team in a friendly match at the Olympic Port Stadium.
