Assistant Foreign Minister for Arab World Affairs, Minister Plenipotentiary Nasser Al-Qahtani, expressed his appreciation for Iraq’s tireless efforts towards Kuwaiti property, stressing the importance of continuing efforts to recover Kuwaiti property, especially the archives of the Amiri Diwan, the Crown Prince’s Diwan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

A local Arabic daily quoting Al-Qahtani said that Kuwait had received from the Iraqi side 738 boxes containing information materials belonging to the Ministry of Information and (Seif Palace) dating back to the era of the country’s former Amir, Sheikh Ahmed Al-Jaber, and two copies of the Holy Qur’an which were recently found in Iraq.

During the ceremony of handing over properties belonging to Kuwait which were stolen by the former Iraqi regime, in this context, we urge the brothers in Iraq to conclude the outstanding issues between the two sides, foremost of which is the file of Kuwaiti prisoners and missing persons, by accelerating the pace of work to reveal the fate of these prisoners and missing persons because this file is of great importance to the Kuwaiti people.

For his part, the Iraqi Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs for Multilateral Affairs and Legal Affairs, Qahtan Al-Janabi, said that his country’s government seeks to return all Kuwaiti property to Kuwait, adding, “We have made great strides in this field and we will spare no effort to end this file and return all property.”

He went on to say, “We arrived in Kuwait to deliver a new shipment of Kuwaiti property in a private plane. We carry 738 boxes containing various books, magazines, microfilms and things belonging to the Kuwaiti Ministry of Information and Kuwaiti Radio, in addition to an Amiri sword dating back to the era of Sheikh Ahmed Al-Jaber and two copies of the Holy Qur’an.”

He stressed the continuation of work to restore relations to normal between Iraq and Kuwait, and to end all outstanding issues, adding, “This is the normal situation for the brothers in the Arab countries,” expressing aspiration for more cooperation and development of relations between the two countries.
