Kuwait and Washington have agreed on a common position on the Russian-Ukrainian crisis, and on the need for “the international community to stand united against Russia’s violation of international law.”

The US State Department issued a brief statement today, Wednesday, regarding a phone call between Kuwaiti Deputy Foreign Minister Majdi Al-Dhafiri and his US counterpart Wendy Sherman, during which they discussed the current Ukrainian crisis and the two countries’ positions on the conflict, reports Al-Rai daily.

The text of the statement read out by Ned Price, the official spokesman for the US State Department, stated that “Wendy Sherman spoke by phone with Al-Dhafiri, the Kuwaiti deputy foreign minister.”

He statement, thanked Kuwait for its expression of solidarity with Ukraine and for joining its voice with the United States and the international community in condemning the violations against Ukrainian sovereignty, which are violations committed by Russia by waging an unjustified war.

The statement noted that “Kuwait issued a quick and strong message through its co-sponsorship of the relevant resolutions in the Security Council and the United Nations General Assembly, which condemned the aggression against Ukraine.”

The statement concluded by noting that Al-Dhafiri and Sherman discussed and agreed that there is an urgent need for the international community to stand united against Russia’s violation of international law.
