Attorney General Dhirar Al-Asousi affirmed, Monday, that the integrity of the judiciary, its stature, and its elevation is signs that reveal the civilization, advancement, and progress of nations.
Al-Jarida said in his introduction to the annual report prepared by the Public Prosecution, Al-Asousi said the Public Prosecution Office in Kuwait, for nearly half a century, has been moving towards upgrading the edifices of justice, by constantly watching over the rights of individuals and institutions in society.
This is in addition to aspects of its national responsibility to attain this lofty status. He added that a report was prepared for the Public Prosecution’s work for 2021, in which those responsible for preparing it adopted the method of induction and investigation until it was established on the basis of the statistical chart, in order to anticipate the future parameters and the best ways to reduce crime in a way that contributes to advancing awareness in society.
The report stated that the total number of Public Prosecution cases in 2021 was 30,094 compared to 22,803 in 2020, and 21,353 in 2019. He said 27,965 were looked into (completed) in 2021 at a rate of 92.9%.
He indicated that the types of crimes reported to the Public Prosecution in 2021 are commercial crimes (10,123), juvenile crimes 5,251, other crimes 3,219 crimes, state security crimes (64), and crimes of infringement on public funds, financial markets, and terrorist financing (320) crimes and press, media and information technology «2205» crimes.
He stated that the total number of defendants in 2021 amounted to 33,880 defendants, 90.2 percent of whom are males and 9.8 percent female, noting that 58.5 percent are Kuwaitis and 41.5 percent are non-Kuwaitis.
