The Meta company announced that it has started applying the mechanisms for verifying the age of Instagram users in several additional countries.
The company indicated in its statement that it had started applying the mechanisms for verifying the age of Instagram users previously in the United States, and today it began testing these mechanisms for network users in some European countries and in Canada, Mexico, Australia, Japan and South Korea, reports Al-Rai daily.
According to Russia Today, through specific mechanisms, Instagram users can confirm their age to those in charge of the network through 3 methods, either by sending pictures of documents proving the date of birth such as a personal identity or passport, or by recording a video clip in which the user appears, previewing the clip using artificial intelligence techniques to verify age and as for the third method, it is called “social verification”, through which 3 users of the person’s friends on “Instagram” confirm his age and send this data through special questionnaires.
According to the available information, “Instagram” will store the verification data it obtains for a period of 30 days, and after reviewing it, it will be deleted to preserve its privacy and not to leak it.
Those in charge of “Instagram” believe that these mechanisms may protect users, especially adolescents, from sometimes unwanted publications or data reach.
