Indian Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said Friday that death toll due to COVID-19 in the country rose to 2,649 while the number of positive cases climbed to 81,970.

In its morning update, the Ministry said that with 100 fresh deaths, COVID-19 death toll in the country rose to 2,649 while the number of positive cases went up to 81,970 with 3,967 fresh infections.

So far, 27,920 people were discharged from hospitals after recovery. Maharashtra is considered the worst-hit Indian state with 1,019 deaths and 27,524 positive cases followed by Gujarat with 586 deaths and 9,591 positive cases as the pandemic hit 33 Indian states.

India is in its third phase of lockdown in which various regions have been divided into red, orange and green zones taking into account the severity of the infection.

Areas not affected by the virus will enjoy some relaxation while there are several restrictions that would be strictly implemented across the nation.
