The Indian Embassy held an event last week to draw focus on the Indian state of West Bengal. In his speech on the occasion, Ambassador of India H.E. Sibi George noted that the mission has been organizing multiple events under the banner Aatmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India), and conducting various state facilitation events focusing on different states of India to promote the 3 Ts of Trade, Technology and Tourism, which are continuing to yield positive results.

Referring to Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal, as the cultural capital of India, the ambassador said West Bengal offers a unique flavor to the richness of India with its synthesis of various customs, traditions, cuisines and lifestyle. He went on to add that with its broad network of rivers and geographical features, West Bengal is celebrated for having the largest mangrove forest in the world in the Sunderbans, which is a UNESCO World Heritage, universally acclaimed for housing globally endangered species such as Royal Bengal Tiger.

The ambassador pointed out that West Bengal boasts a biosphere extremely rich in flora and fauna, which has helped the State to flourish as the major eco-tourist destinations in India. He invited the friends of India in Kuwait to visit West Bengal, particularly the Darjeeling Hill Station, one of the most magnificent hill stations in the world famous for its tea, and the other many beautiful locations of West Bengal during their next visit to India.

During the event, a video presentation was made on West Bengal focusing on its tourism, and a documentary on West Bengal Tourism was shown to the audience.

This was followed by cultural performances by the Bengali Cultural Society, which included singing of traditional songs, Baul dance, Santhal dance etc.

Ambassador George also felicitated the yoga practitioners, artistes who performed, volunteers, association leaders and representatives from various Yoga Institutes and Ayurveda clinics in Kuwait who were partners in organizing the 8th International Day of Yoga on 21 June.
