The cost of bringing domestic workers from India, including travel tickets to Kuwait and the fees for the approved offices in India, stands at KD400 dinars if the sponsor does the visa and certifies it from the office at the embassy, Al Rai daily, quoting a source.

The source clarified that there will be no guarantee for the domestic worker in such a case, as the procedures were not done through an approved office in Kuwait. KD990 dinars amount requested by offices is considered to be a fair figure if not large, and there is hope that employment agencies will not resort to exploiting families in need for domestic workers by raising recruitment prices in an attempt to compensate for their losses due to the suspension of domestic workers’ recruitment during the Coronavirus period.

The daily reported, quoting informed sources that no decision has been taken regarding raising the prices of domestic workers’ recruitment so far, but there is fear that some domestic workers’ offices will exploit the Kuwaiti family’s need for those workers in order to raise the prices of their recruitment as compensation for their losses that happened due to the coronavirus suspension.

Sources indicated that it is too early to talk about the prices of recruiting domestic workers now, explaining that the unified “harmonious contract” between Kuwait and the Philippines has not yet been signed, which means that the last decision will allow the return of domestic workers who were stranded in the Philippines to return to their sponsors, and they will not be able to return under another sponsor in the event that her residency is transferred to a second sponsor.
