As the first Air India flights departed from Kuwait Airport to Hyderabad and Cochin carrying Indian expats who left Kuwait, the Indian Ambassador K. Jeeva Sagar was present with officials to oversee the proceedings. The Indian Ambassador expressed his thanks to the Kuwait Government for supporting the evacuation of Indian nationals, Air India for taking special care of passengers and the Indian Community in Kuwait for their continued support and cooperation.

“I am very glad the Vande Bharath Mission has taken off very well on the first flight, and we are looking forward to its success,” he added, “I hope the next phase and coming flights will also go smoothly.”

The first flights from Kuwait are part of the Vande Bharath Mission to repatriate stranded Indians, on medical and personal emergencies.

Both flights landed safely, Air India flight AI 988 from Kuwait arrived at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport with 163 passengers and another Air India flight transported 177 Indians to Kochi.A total of five flights are scheduled from Kuwait in the first week of repatriating Indian nationals to Hyderabad, Kochi, Chennai, Ahmedabad and Kozhikode.
