Indian government sources revealed on Friday that 779 more people succumbed to the deadly COVID-19 and 55,078 new positive cases were reported across the country.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said in its latest update that the death toll following coronavirus infection rose to 35,747 as total positive cases in the country rose beyond 1.6 million.

The ministry data showed that over one million people have recovered from the deadly pandemic as it spread to 35 Indian states. The recovery rate among COVID-19 patients is 64.54 percent while the fatality rate is 2.18 percent, the data showed.

Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, New Delhi, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Telangana, West Bengal and Rajasthan are the worst affected 10 Indian states.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Home Affairs issued fresh guidelines for the third phase of unlocking and relaxed the lockdown restrictions in areas outside containment zones.

The new guidelines of the ministry will come into force on first of August. The night curfews imposed in the country will be removed.

Movement of people or goods across the country would be allowed with no additional pass. Metro services, cinema halls, and swimming pools, entertainment parks, bars, theaters, auditoriums and other social gathering places will also be shut.

Large gatherings and social, political, sports, entertainment, academic, cultural, religious functions will not be permitted, the guidelines said.
