Indian Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Wednesday that death toll following COVID-19 pandemic in the country rose to 2,415 while the number of positive cases climbed to 74,281.

So far, 24,386 people were discharged from hospitals after they recovered, the ministry said in a press statement.

Maharashtra is considered the worst-hit Indian state with 921 deaths and 24,427 positive cases, followed by Gujarat with 537 deaths and 8903 positive cases as the pandemic hit 33 Indian states, it added.

India is in its third phase of lockdown in which various regions have been divided into red, orange and green zones taking into account the severity of the infection, it added.

Areas not affected by the coronavirus will enjoy some relaxation while there are several restrictions that would be strictly implemented across the nation, it noted.
