Indian Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Tuesday that COVID-19 has claimed 62 more lives while 1,543 more people have tested positive for it in the last 24 hours.

The figures took the death toll to 934 and the overall cases to 29,435, the ministry noted.

There was an increase in the number of one-day deaths as it went up to 62 from the earlier figure of 48 and the number of infections also saw an increase from 1,396 one day earlier to 1,543.

Out of the total infected cases, 6,869 people were discharged from hospitals after they recovered, the authorities said. Maharashtra remains the worst affected Indian state as the death toll climbed to 369 while there are 8590 infections followed by Gujarat with 162 deaths and 3548 positive cases as the pandemic affected 32 Indian states.

The authorities imposed few weeks back a nationwide lock-down slapping curfew-like restrictions, closing down schools, educational institutions, and universities and banning religious festivals and huge gatherings.
