Indian Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Thursday that the death toll due to COVID-19 in the country rose to 3,435 with 132 one day deaths.

The Health Ministry said in its morning update that 132 more lives were lost due to coronavirus infection and the total number of deaths climbed to 3435. There were 5,609 fresh positive cases across the country, taking the total number of infections to 112,359 and the number of people discharged from hospitals after recovery are 45300.

Maharashtra is considered the worst-hit Indian state with 1,390 deaths and 3,9297 positive cases followed by Gujarat with 749 deaths and 12,537 positive cases as the pandemic hit 33 Indian states. National capital New Delhi and the south Indian state of Tamil Nadu are other worst-affected Indian states.

India recently extended lockdown for the fourth time to curb the spread of deadly coronavirus in the country. The lockdown shall continue to remain in force until May 31 with several relaxations in the nonaffected areas.

Certain services and activities including domestic and international air travel, metro rail services and schools, colleges and educational institutions will remain closed in addition to hospitality services, cinema halls, shopping malls, parks, theaters, bars and auditoriums.
