COVID-19 cases have climbed to 198,706 and 5,598 lives were lost due to the pandemic, the Indian Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Tuesday.

The health ministry said that there were 8,171 positive cases and 204 deaths in the last 24 hours due to COVID-19 in the country.

Maharashtra is considered the worst-hit state with 2362 deaths and 70013 positive cases. New Delhi, Gujarat, and Tamil Nadu are the other worst affected Indian states as the deadly virus hit 35 Indian states.

The Indian government announced its decision to extend the lockdown in containment zones while giving key relaxations in the less affected areas.
