Indian authorities said on Monday that one-day deaths due to COVID-19 in the country were 380 while 19,459 people were infected by the coronavirus in the last 24 hours.

The Indian Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said in its update that the total number of deaths so far due to the pandemic stood at 16,475 while positive cases in the country jumped to 548,318.

The ministry said that there are 210,120 active cases and 321,723 people have recovered till now. Maharashtra, Delhi, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Gujarat are considered the worst affected Indian states in wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Indian government had announced its decision to extend the lockdown in containment zones while giving key relaxations in the less affected areas.

However, many state governments are unwilling to extend the lockdown as it has already made normal life and economic activities in jeopardy.
