Director of the Public Authority for Industry, Abdul Karim Taqi, has sent a request to the Public Authority for Manpower to agree to increase the percentage of labor support for Kuwaiti workers by 10 percent in the industrial sector, specifically in factories, in addition to what is currently being paid to this category of workers, Al-Rai daily reported.

Relevant sources told the daily that Taqi has also suggested the formation of a committee to decide on grievances of employees and bring stability to the industrial sector.

The sources indicated that the proposal to increase industrial employment support “will support the salary scale of Kuwaiti employees in this sector, and further encourage them to take up industrial jobs which otherwise are not attractive since Kuwaitis do not prefer to work in factories.”

The sources stated “working in factories does not attract a large segment of citizens due to the effort expended in their work and the low salary scale compared to financial and other jobs,” noting that “improving work returns in this sector by allocating additional support to its workers would make local factories and industrial facilities attractive for Kuwaitis.”
