Dhiraj Oberoi handing over the memorandum to the Charge d Affaires, H.E Raj Gopal Singh

Indian Community Support Group (ICSG) made an earnest appeal on July 27 to the government of India to allow for the resumption of flights from India to Kuwait and vice versa.

In a memorandum handed over to the Charge d’Affairs H E Raj Gopal Singh, the members requested that the Indian government allow Indian nationals to return back to Kuwait to join their families and also resume work after almost 5 months as a humanitarian gesture.

Thousands of Indians are stranded back home and wish to return to Kuwait and earn their livelihood. Kuwait has partially opened its airspace but has banned passengers flying in from 31 countries so far.

Though India is among the 31 countries passengers are not allowed to enter directly and only allowed to enter if they spend 14 days in countries which are not in the list of 31 countries. Further India has closed its airspace until Aug 31 and has banned Indian nationals from visiting countries as part of controlling the spread of the virus.

Indian nationals destined for Kuwait are not allowed to visit or transit Dubai as the government of India is prohibiting Indians to leave the country and quarantine in third countries before flying into Kuwait.

The five committee members (out of 14) who called on H E Raj Gopal Singh are Rajpal Tyagi, Dhiraj Oberoi, Dr Amir Ahmed, Reaven D’Souza and T Remesh. The committee also made a request to the Prime Minister of India office as well as India’s civil aviation minister and minister of external affairs. They have also received an acknowledgment that the matter is being reviewed.
