The Secretary-General of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, Jagan Shapagain, praised Kuwait’s role in the field of humanitarian and relief work, when it comes to dealing with crises and disasters, and community participation.

After his meeting with the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Kuwait Red Crescent Society, Dr. Hilal Al-Sayer, Shapagain told the Kuwait News Agency that the KRCS has a long history of honourable work in supporting the state’s efforts in relief work while facing crises and disasters, in addition to its participation in supporting the efforts of the International Committee of the Red Cross and Red Crescent.

He added that the Society is one of the most active members of the ICRC, whether in the countries of the region or in areas where crises are widespread and in which the committee is active.

It is an example to follow and reflects the distinction and leadership of Kuwaiti humanitarian work, he said.

He mentioned that the KRCS is one of the most active and supportive national societies for the directives of the International Movement of the Red Crescent and the Red Cross to achieve its goals and principles, including providing support and assistance to the needy and those affected by man-made crises and natural disasters.

He pointed out that he follows up with appreciation the KRCS field activities in the Yemeni, Sudanese and Syrian arenas, keeping pace with the humanitarian situation and dealing with it with responsibility and high efficiency.

Shapagain said that his meeting with Dr. Hilal Al-Sayer dealt with ways to enhance cooperation and joint coordination in many humanitarian issues and crises, particularly the issues of refugees and displaced persons, and the efforts exerted by both sides to alleviate their suffering and improve their living conditions.

He pointed out that he also presented the role of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in confronting crises, disasters and wars, in addition to exchanging the experiences and capabilities of the Federation’s national societies in various countries of the world.

For his part, Al-Sayer stressed that the Society attaches great importance to the areas of cooperation and coordination with international humanitarian organizations, especially the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent for the benefit of humanity, praising the role of the ICRS in terms of international humanitarian aid and its development projects in countries that are subject to crises.

He went on to say that the Kuwait Red Crescent Society is looking forward to strengthening its partnership with the ICRC and the Red Crescent and working together to improve the conditions of those affected by humanitarian crises.

He reviewed the humanitarian and development efforts of the Society on many issues and countries, including its efforts to help Syrian refugees in Jordan, Lebanon, the Rohingya, Yemen and Turkey.
