Democracy fails when the press does not hold the government accountable
Today, Prince Harry denounced the media’s interference in his life, stressing that “every article” dealt with caused him suffering, in a testimony he gave during a trial in London to a popular newspaper accusing it of hacking his private phone messages.

The 38-year-old Duke of Sussex told the High Court in the British capital that he had suffered from “press interference in most of his life,”reports Al-Rai daily quoting AFP.

The appearance of King Charles III’s youngest son marks the first appearance of a member of the royal family in court since Edward VII testified in 1890 in a defamation case.

Harry criticized the relationship between the press and the British government, saying, “Our country is seen in the whole world through the status of its press and its government, and I think that both are at rock bottom,” adding that “democracy fails when the press does not hold the government accountable, but chooses to ally with it to ensure the status quo.”

The youngest son of King Charles III arrived today at the High Court to testify in a trial against the publisher of the Daily Mirror newspaper.

The Duke of Sussex appeared in a black car and then went to the courtroom without speaking to the journalists who were waiting for him in dozens.

Harry, who currently resides in California with his wife Meghan, after he moved away from the royal family due to his differences with her, has been attacking and prosecuting the British popular media.

His presence at the Supreme Court in London would give great media importance to his battle with the popular press, which he holds responsible for the killing of his mother, Princess Diana, in a 1997 car accident in Paris when photo hunters were chasing her, in addition to his denunciation of the way she dealt with his wife, Megan Markle.

Although Harry was summoned on Monday to court to testify if his turn came, he was unable to arrive due to his preoccupation with his daughter Lilibet’s birthday, which fell on Sunday, which prompted him to delay his flight to London from Los Angeles.
