Strengthening its humanitarian diplomacy with countries around the world has burnished Kuwait’s reputation on the international stage, with the country now being considered a symbol of humanity, said Assistant Foreign Minister for Economic Affairs Ambassador Sami Al-Hamad.

The assistant foreign minister was speaking on the sidelines of a celebration organized by the Embassy of Tajikistan at Al-Adailiya Park last week to mark the annual Nowroz (Spring) festival. Over 40 embassies, mainly from Asia and Africa, participated in the event.

Pointing to the depth of relations that bind Kuwait with various countries, Al-Hamad added that Kuwait has always been at the forefront in winning friendships with countries around the world, thanks to its humanitarian diplomacy and cooperative policies in various fields.

For his part, the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps and Ambassador of Tajikistan, H.E. Dr. Zabidullah Zabidov, expressed his happiness at the development of his country’s relations with Kuwait over the past many years and which continued during the last two years despite repercussions from the COVID-19 global pandemic. He stressed that the coming period will witness more progress in all aspects of cooperation in various fields.

Zabidov praised the assistance provided by Kuwait to many countries to mitigate the repercussions of the pandemic, and to overcome the living difficulties that coincided with it.

He went on to add that since its early days, Kuwait has been known to take the initiative to help those affected by calamities, both man-made and from natural catastrophes, even if they did not ask for it. This was one of the reasons why Kuwait was considered a ‘shining example’ and all countries speak highly of “this country which is small in size, but large in its heart and its charitable activities.”

Speaking on the occasion, the acting Secretary-General of the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters, Dr. Issa Al-Ansari, expressed his deep thanks and appreciation to all the diplomatic missions that actively participated in the celebration, praising the depth of cultural relations with various countries of the world.

Adding his views on the Nowruz festival, the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Dr. Muhammad Irani, noted that the annual festival has a great and ancient history, and added that he was happy to see this large number of people participating in the celebration. He explained that the Iranian people and the people of Central Asian countries celebrate this holiday as the advent of spring, and it has become a traditional cultural festival for these people.
