The Human Rights Association has called for the importance of reconsidering the health system handling the treatment of expatriate workers after several doctors criticized the decisions of previous and current health fees imposed on this category of people because the system does not take into account their salaries which for some of them are very low and as a result many of them refuse to seek treatment and that leads to their death.

A local Arabic daily quoting doctors said, many of them wait until tomorrow and avoid going to clinics and hospitals for necessary check ups until many of them seek treatment when their health condition worsens.

The association stated that healthcare is one of the basics of human rights, and if there are administrative obstacles, whether in the leakage of medicines or a defect in the demographics, then the solution is not at the expense of the weaker party, the owners of families, and families who are mainly burdened with financial obligations in light of global inflation and high prices, which the citizen complains about before the expatriates.

In order to get out of this economic problem, it calls for the necessity of activating health insurance hospitals in a deliberate manner and introducing the General Secretariat of Awqaf to provide support to the health system to cover part of the costs of treating expatriates, whether in x-rays, examinations or medicines. The endowment in Islam is a civilized system that provides advanced humanitarian services.

The association pointed out that such decisions related to aspects and the health issue, if not carefully studied, will be negatively reflected on Kuwait’s international human rights record at a time when the state and its civil society are keen to highlight and enhance the image of Kuwait and its civilizational and humanitarian role.
