Large crowds of expats swarmed the Mishref fairgrounds awaiting their turn for the coronavirus test. The Ministry of Health designated the Mishref Fairgrounds as the new center for screening expatriates who traveled abroad to certain countries and returned to Kuwait, for coronavirus infections. The move was a directive from the Kuwait cabinet to handle the growing coronavirus threat, and prevent the infected from coming in contact with the public.

Unlike recent reports where the excessive number of expats created problems for the medical center and medical staff, the process was more orderly. Al Rai reported that the expats were organized in a long line to prevent congestion in front of the hall gate, with priority given to children and families.

The Ministry of Health had invited arrivals from 23 countries, who entered the country from February 27, to visit the new examination center in the fairgrounds for coronavirus checks and they were encouraged to follow the preventive measures of home quarantine from today until next Tuesday.

As an update to the circular, the Ministry of Health has requested expatriates who have traveled on and after 27 February to visit the Kuwait fairgrounds for medical checkups to ensure they are coronavirus free. Today, 12 March, all expatriates who have returned to Kuwait from Egypt, Syria and Lebanon and who reside in Al Jahra governorate are required to visit the fairgrounds as part of preventative measures against the coronavirus pandemic. Failure to do so will invite penalties.
