The private sector companies have opened doors for national workers to fill jobs and professions that will suffer of shortage in the coming months after the Public Authority for Manpower (PAM) linked these jobs to educational qualifications.

This happens due to the continued shortage of expatriate workers and limited number of incoming job seekers who hold university degrees and diplomas.

According to a report, of which Al-Qabas has obtained a copy, five-star hotels have submitted their requests to the authority for job vacancies in kitchens, starting with the profession of head chef and professional chef, department head chef, restaurant manager, assistants cooks, assistant restaurant supervisors, service supervisors, dining hall supervisor, etc.

Sources working in the field of catering and restaurants management said linking the educational level with the professions will contribute to the departure of a number of expatriate restaurant workers for the very fact they do not hold a diploma or university degree.

However, the sources pointed out that jobs made available in the restaurants and catering services for national workers will provide desired jobs for many Kuwaitis and help get rid of unemployment.

Nonetheless, what distinguishes national workers is that many of them hold scientific degrees, whether a diploma or higher and but don’t have experience in restaurants and catering service or have a desire to learn it.

However, PAM has also provided a range of engineering jobs for the national workforce, ranging from data analysis engineers in food and dairy products companies to building and construction and contracting engineers.

The report indicated that there are a number of engineering jobs made available in cooperation with the Ministry of Public Works to work on a number of government contracts, provided they hold a Bachelor’s degree in “civil, mechanical, industrial, and architectural engineering” in addition to providing other opportunities for holders of technical and professional certificates for auto electricians and air-conditioning technicians.

Among the professions available are also a range of other professions “accounting, administrative officer, data entry, labor and project monitors.”

With regard to the new work permits, informed sources confirmed that PAM has activated the permit issuance system last week, while the number of permits issued is limited.

The sources attributed the limited issuance of work to the approval of vaccination certificates through the Ministry of Health, expecting an increase in the frequency of permit issuance in the coming days.

The sources emphasized the Authority’s automated system does not accept a transaction without the approval of the vaccination certificate issued by the Ministry of Health.
