Hopes for the opening of Family visas were raised as First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior and Acting Minister of Defense Sheikh Talal Al-Khaled issued a decision to introduce an entry visa to Kuwait to practice sports, cultural or social activities.

Arabic daily Al Rai quoting sources said that the move to open the door for family visas will however come only after completing a number of procedures related to the mechanism for issuing visas, and the conditions required for those who apply for them in terms of salary and job, in addition to that they will be limited to first-degree relatives only.

Yesterday Minister Al-Khaled issued a decision to add a new clause to Article 4 of Ministerial Resolution No. 957/2019, which stipulated the introduction of a new type of entry visa to Kuwait, which is: an entry visa to practice sports, cultural or social activities.

The visa iwill be issued by the General Directorate of Residence Affairs based on a request submitted by any one of the sports clubs or accredited cultural and social institutions, bodies and associations in the country in accordance with the controls set by the General Directorate of Residence Affairs.

According to the decision, the visa allows its holder to temporarily reside in the country for a period of 3 months, and it may be renewed for a period not exceeding one year from the date of entry in accordance with the provision of Article 11 of Emiri Decree No. 17 of 1959.

The sources praised the step of granting visas for sports, cultural or social activities for a period of 3 months, and allowing their extension in accordance with regulations and procedures for a period not exceeding one year, as a step that contributes to facilitating various related activities, in addition to the openness required to activate the economic and commercial movement in the country.

The sources pointed out that the Ministry of Interior is currently working on setting up a special mechanism to receive visa applications by taking electronic appointments to review the residence affairs departments according to the procedures.
