His Highness the Amir of the State of Kuwait Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah

His Highness, the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah has stressed on the need for parliamentarians to avoid getting into conflicts to satisfy their narrow interests. He added to give priority to the country’s main interest and to avoid using constitutional tools arbitrarily.

This was the message from His Highness, to the National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim,  delivered to the MPs, after discussing the Russian-Ukrainian war and its impact on Kuwait. During the session, a number of recommendations were presented, which included the establishment of a public authority for emergency, crisis, and disaster management. Another suggestion was to direct the Kuwait Investment Authority to invest in strategic farms to ensure food security.

Al-Ghanim said: “Yesterday, I was honoured to meet His Highness the Amir, and listened to his wise directives and visions regarding many urgent matters at the local and foreign levels, and His Highness assigned me to convey a message to his sons, the MPs.”

He added that His Highness called on his sons, the MPs, to put Kuwait’s supreme interest above all considerations, especially in light of the existing turbulent international climate, which includes the military confrontation between Russia and Ukraine that concerns Kuwait.

His Highness, in his message, stressed on the need for the MPs to bear their national responsibility in dealing with these developments. Focus must be on strengthening Kuwait politically and economically. Care should also be given to ensure the security levels are maintained as Kuwait enters the current critical period.

Prior to yesterday’s secret session, the Prime Minister, His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled said: “I am thankful for convening this session. Kuwait and the world have begun to regain their breath after the Corona pandemic, which lasted two years.

During the secret session, Finance Minister Abdulwahab Al-Rasheed said that the main objective in the next few days is to follow the developments of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict and its direct and indirect consequences on the global and local economy.  He also recommended in taking appropriate decisions while considering Kuwait’s higher interests when necessary. “We have risk management teams in three countries to monitor the situation and study the potential effects on foreign investments,” stated the Finance Minister, Abdulwahab Al-Rasheed
