The Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Oil, Minister of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy, Dr. Muhammad Al-Faris, said that the latest studies conducted by the Ministry of Health, (Radiation Protection Department), confirms that there is no damage to humans living nearby the overhead high-voltage lines.

In response to a question by MP, Hamad Al-Matar, Al-Faris said that the Ministry of Electricity and Water does not have high-voltage power lines passing over homes, and the indicated safe distance between these lines and buildings ranges between 20 and 45 meters, depending on the voltage of the power lines which ranges from 132 to 400 kilovolts.

He added that the cost of laying underground cables in some residential areas is between 20 and 25 times the cost of overhead lines, and their safety has not been studied by the Radiation Protection Department.

He concluded stating that the work on high-voltage lines is done in coordination with the relevant government agencies, including the Kuwait Municipality, the Environment Public Authority, and the Ministry of Health, noting that he did not receive any complaints from residents near the high-voltage overhead power lines.
