The National Assembly meetings will be postponed for a month, starting on Thursday, February 18, 2021, based on Article 106 of the Constitution after the issuance of an Emiri Decree, which was announced by the Council of Ministers, Al Qabas daily reported.

Article 106 stipulates that the Emir may, by decree, postpone the meeting of the National Assembly for a period not exceeding one month, and the postponement is not repeated in a single session except with the approval of the Council and for one period, and the postponement period is not calculated within the period of the session.

This came amid the delay of the Prime Minister-designate, His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled, in announcing his new government formation, something that Al-Qabas sources attributed to a number of reasons, most notably: the many apologies among candidates, and their reluctance to accept the ministerial position.

The sources said that the state of tension and escalation by members of the National Assembly against the prospective government, even before its announcement, is raising unease among those who are offered the position, who want to avoid confrontations with the MPs on the one hand, and are certain – with the continuation of the parliamentary escalation – of the shortening of the government’s life on the one hand.
