A member of the Municipal Council, Eng Maha Al-Baghli, says the health clubs must be obliged to provide AED (automated external defibrillator) resuscitation equipment on its premises.

Al-Qabas quoted Al-Baghli as saying, “We have recently noticed several cases of young people suffering from heart problems during exercise in health and sports clubs, which led to deaths due to the delay in dealing with these cases until the arrival of ambulances, while there are simple AED devices that can be provided for cardiac resuscitation, and workers in the health clubs can be trained on the use of AED to save lives of people.

Al-Baghli stressed the availability of a cardiac resuscitation device and the training of the facility’s workers to use it should be made one of the conditions while issuing the licenses to sports and health clubs as a precautionary measure.
