The Ministry of Interior announced that the General Administration of the Coast Guard, represented by the Maritime Security Department, was able to thwart a smuggling operation of a quantity of narcotic substances that five men attempted to smuggle into the country by sea.

The Public Relations and Security Media Department of the Directorate-General of Drugs Control stated that after information reached the security authorities about the presence of a quantity of prohibited materials in the possession of one of the boats within Kuwaiti territorial waters, reports Al-Rai daily.

The sources indicated that a force from the Maritime Security Department was formed to monitor and investigate the incident, and the Coast Guard personnel lay in wait for the vessel to enter Kuwait’s territorial water and after it was seized 38 pieces with a street value of 150,000 Kuwaiti dinars was seized from the boat.

The sources stated when the defendants were confronted with what was seized, they admitted and confessed to their attempt to smuggle the contraband into the country.

The contraband and the suspects have been referred to the concerned authority. The sources stressed that the security efforts are continuing to protect the society from the menace of drugs.
