Labor market figures issued by the Central Administration of Statistics reveal the youth dominate the government sector, as the percentage of Kuwaitis who are 35 years and below is about 48.4% of the total number of Kuwaitis working in this sector, which opens the door to question whether this number constitutes a dilemma in the face of government employment in the future, or not?
According to observers, the number of young Kuwaiti workers, compared to older employees, means that the length of stay of current employees in the government sector is due to the large time-space between them and the age required for retirement in the government sector, which affects the sector’s capabilities to absorb new employees.
Returning to the statistics, the figures showed that the number of Kuwaiti employees in the government sector in the age group from 20 to 24 years was 19.7 thousand, representing 5.6% of the total Kuwaitis in the sector, and in the category from 25 to 29 years, was 76.6 thousand, or 21.8%, and in the category of 30 to 34 years old, it is 73.7 thousand, or 21%.
On the other hand, the figures revealed that about 65.1 thousand Kuwaiti employees in the government sector were aged between 35 and 39 years at a rate of 18.5%, while 49.7 thousand employees at a rate of 14.1% were between 40 and 44 years old, while 35.6 thousand were aged between 45 and 49 years at a rate of % 10.1.
The statistics revealed that the percentage of Kuwaiti workers in the government sector who are over 50 years old reached 8.9%, distributed among the age groups from 50 to 65 years, the majority of them are in the age group from 50 to 54 years, with a total of 20.2 thousand employees, while the number of Kuwaiti workers who are over 65 years old in Government sector 1416 male and female employees.
As for non-Kuwaitis working in the government sector, most of them are between 35 and 49 years old, at a rate of nearly 57%, of the total number of non-Kuwaitis which is about 89,000.
The statistics indicated that about 10% of the expatriates are aged between 50 and 54 years, whose over 55 years old are 12.4%, of whom 1,397 are male and female employees are over 65 years old, representing 1.6% of the total non-Kuwaitis working in the government sector.
