The Traffic and Operations Sector, under direct instructions from the Ministry of Interior’s Assistant Undersecretary for Traffic and Operations Affairs, Major General Jamal Al Sayegh, and with field follow-up from the Assistant Director-General of Traffic for Licensing Affairs, Brigadier Yousef Al-Khadda, continued to implement its campaigns with the aim of controlling the traffic situation on the street, eliminating recklessness and keeping a tap on grave breaches.
The officer of the Public Relations and Media Department of the General Traffic Department, Major Abdullah Buhassan, said in a press statement that the security and traffic campaigns during the past week resulted in issuing 27,508 traffic violations, referring 84 vehicles and 31 motorcycles to the detention garage, and referring 35 violators who committed serious traffic violations to the General Traffic Department, reports a local Arabic daily.
The campaign also resulted in the seizure of 57 juveniles who were caught driving vehicles without licenses and were referred to the Juvenile Prosecution, as well as impounding 20 vehicles wanted by security and judicial authorities, and the arrest of 10 people wanted by security and judicial authorities.
Buhassan added that the security statistics for the traffic and operations sector showed that the Traffic Operations Department ranked first in recording the number of violations, with 7,679 recorded traffic violations, followed by the Capital Traffic Department with 5,151 and then the Hawalli Traffic Department with 4,369.
He explained the General Administration of Emergency Police recorded 665 traffic violations during the past week, carried out 355 security and traffic operations, and referred 9 vehicles to the detention garage, in addition to the arrest of 12 persons wanted by security and criminals, as well as the arrest of 24 persons for not carrying identification papers and 6 persons for driving under the influence of alcohol.
He stated that the emergency police patrols seized 8 vehicles wanted by law and they were referred to the competent authorities, in addition to 4 cases of drug use and possession, and they were referred to the General Administration for Drug Control.
