Gowd Saraswat Brahman (GSB) Sabha Kuwait celebrated its 16th annual function ‘Konkani Sourabha’ recently at Indian Community School (ICSK) Auditorium, Salmiya, Kuwait with the presence of Chief Guest Uday Jadugar.

Attending the function was GSB member families and invited Guest Artist Vidushi Sparsha Shenoy, who came especially from Mysore, India. Compering was done by Vibha Vishwanath Prabhu and Disha Girish Shenoy. The program started with invoking the blessings of the Almighty God followed by an invocation dance performed by Guest Artist Vidushi Sparsha Shenoy.

The ceremonial lighting of the lamp was performed by the Chief Guest alongside the President of the GSB Sabha, Palimar Vishwanath Prabhu. He was joined by the committee members, Vice President – Shri Girish Shenoy, Gen. Secretary – Spoorthy Deepak Kamath, Treasurer – Vinayak Prabhu and PRO – Ganesh Padiyar. In his welcome address, the President thanked and discussed his tenure as president for the year 2018 and 2019.

The Chief Guest Uday Jadugar was given a warm welcome. In his address, he expressed his gratitude for the invitation for the first time in his life as Chief guest for any GSB community function.

The highlight of the evening commenced when invited guest artist Vidushi Sparsha Shenoy entertained the crowd with a Bharatanatyam performance.  Both the Chief Guest and Guest Artists were felicitated by GSB advisory Committee members B. Prakash Pai, Rajaram Pai Kateel, Gokuldas Bhat, Dr. Surendra Nayak and Anil Prabhu.

Acknowledging the meritorious students who excelled in 10th and 12th Grade, mementos were distributed respectively by the Chief Guest. During the stage program, GSB kids performed scintillating dance numbers to popular Hindi and Kannada songs, which was followed by a skit ‘Punya Koti’, Yakshagana and a medley dance by GSB lady members.

Another hallmark of the event was the staging of the play ‘Military Mamu’, which was written by Arun Prakash Nayak, Mangalore and directed by the association’s own local talent Manjeshwar Mohandas Kamath and co-directed by Shri Naveen Prabhu. The Konkani drama received wide applause from the audience. It was the first stage play out of Mangalore organized in Kuwait, and the Konkani drama was very well performed by local GSB members. Technical expert Shri Jagadeeshwar Shanbhag lent his expertise to the production.

The program came to a close with a sumptuous dinner served by Sangeeta Restaurant and the Vote of Thanks by Spoorthy Deepak Kamath.
