The Ministry of Information has formed with members from several government agencies, including the ministries of Commerce and Interior to set controls and conditions for commercial advertisements on social media, whether for companies or individuals.

This is done to regulate what the ministry called celebrity ads, accounts and news platforms on social media, reports a local Arabic daily.

Sources said the committee will work to end the state of chaos in promoting goods and services in Kuwait without obtaining licenses to do so, especially since some of these advertisements have become fertile ground for suspicious operations.

The ministry indicated that the proposed scenarios include subjecting all well-known social media platforms and even famous individual and companies accounts to the requirements of commercial advertising, by obtaining the necessary licenses for this.

The sources stressed that “Social Media” advertisements are of commercial and marketing nature that requires regulation and obligating its practitioners and subjecting them to monitoring and scrutiny during the coming period.
