The head of the Parliamentary Education, Culture and Guidance Committee, MP Hamad Al-Matar, stated that the committee and the government have agreed to increase the allowances of students on scholarships in abroad.
The Minister of Education and Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Hamad Al-Adwani and Undersecretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, d. Sabah Al-Mukhaizeem, noted that there is a report prepared by the ministry, that explains the living conditions in all countries and the extent of inflation in them.
Al-Matar further stated that a meeting will be held within two weeks with the minister and his deputy, in the presence of the foreign student unions, who represent about 19,000 students on scholarships abroad, wherein there will be a preliminary approval from the minister on the increase, due to the high inflation, which reached about 10 percent in some countries, especially since the last increase in student allowances was 8 years ago, and was preceded by another four years.
The committee also held a meeting based on its mandate to research and study ways to develop higher education institutions, public and private universities, in addition to following up on the construction program of Sabah Al-Salem University City.
