The day before yesterday, the giant moon lit up the sky of Kuwait, in a phenomenon that was monitored by a large number of countries in the region, as the moon appeared 14 percent larger in size and 30 percent brighter as a result of its proximity to the earth.
The astronomical studies indicate that this phenomenon will be repeated at the end of this August, when the giant moon will be closer to Earth than the one that appeared at the beginning of this month, reports Al-Rai daily.
The astronomical phenomenon of the giant moon arises from the full moon when it reaches its closest point to the earth in its elliptical orbit, but it is astronomically proven that the distance separating the centers of the moon and the earth ranges approximately every month between 357 thousand km and 406 thousand km based on the elliptical orbit that the moon travels in its rotation around the Earth.
The head of the Kuwaiti Astronomical Society, astronomer Adel Al-Saadoun, told Al-Rai that the next giant moon at the end of this month will be larger, and this phenomenon occurs every two and a half years or every three years, as the moon becomes full twice in the same month.
Astronomical studies have confirmed that there is no effect of the giant moon phenomenon on life in general on Earth, as its effect is limited to increasing the tidal level.
