Please, let me congratulate the eminent leadership of Kuwait. His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, and His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Mishaal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah,on the occasion of the celebrations of the modern State of Kuwait’s National Day on 25 February, as Kuwait gained independence 61 years ago. And then on 26th February, Kuwait marks Liberation Day, a kind of re-birth after tremendous hardship, 31 years ago. I congratulate the Kuwait society as a whole, too. It was a joint effort to liberate the Kuwaiti motherland, many Kuwaiti martyrs lost their lives.

And it was a joint undertaking of many nations around the world – emphasizing once again that International Law and state boundaries have to be respected. We thank the State of Kuwait for the same position towards events in Europe nowadays and before.

Thank you also to Kuwait for sharing the accumulated great prosperity derived from the oil. With this gift the country has been at the center of humanitarian initiatives world-wide. Kuwait indeed has every reason to feel proud and happy.

I join Kuwaitis joyfully marking their independent nation and their freedom.

Heartfelt congratulations.
