The Ministry of Health has launched a new service for the first time in Kuwait – genetic testing for patients with amyloidosis,
It is a distinguished service that is provided by a few centers globally, which confirms the keenness of the ministry to improve the quality of services provided by Kuwait, says Al-Anba daily.
Dr. Khaldoun Al-Hamoud, a heart failure consultant at the Chest Diseases Hospital and Vice-President of the National Program for Amyloid Disease at the Ministry of Health, said conducting a genetic examination for patients with Transthyretin (TTR) Cardiac Amyloidosis is the first for Kuwait and is done in cooperation with the Center for Genetic Diseases.
Amyloidosis is the name for a group of rare, serious conditions caused by a build-up of an abnormal protein called amyloid in organs and tissues throughout the body. The build-up of amyloid proteins (deposits) can make it difficult for the organs and tissues to work properly.
