KUWAIT: Eight of two hundred Filipino household helpers received their certificate of attendance from the Assistant Labor Attaché Hon. Cathy Duladul, Tina Barrios, FIlCRO Vice President and in the presence of Masterchefs Mariefe Torio, Malou Lacorte, Chef Trainer Menchie De Leon and Mrs. Paulita Lundang of Dadabhai Travels. The event was held at the function hall of Jollibee at Little Manila in Old Souq Salmiyah.

The event kicked off with a brief introduction of the one full day course by the organizer from CEE Network Culinary Arts and Lifestyle Courses followed by short orientation and familiarization of the recipes, equipment and procedures. Masterchefs maneuvered the flow of the class, which started with preparation of dough to create varieties of bread and pastries. The afternoon was spent with baking popular Philippine pies. Ingredients were sponsored by an on-line store Jane’s Closet. “Its just my way of thanking people who continuously patronize my products being sold on line and donating such essential products can make these ladies’ dream of becoming a bakery owner someday” commented Jane Caquicla.

The project is an initiative by foreign recruitment agencies in Kuwait “FILCRO” Philippine Client Relation Officers in Kuwait. A group of secretaries and office administrators of different recruitment agencies in Kuwait that deploy domestic helpers. The scholarship project was created to provide opportunities for household helpers to gain access on knowledge and skills on producing and marketing their own baked products in the future. The project was in collaboration with the Philippine Overseas Labor Office in Kuwait and under the auspices of the Philippine Labor Attaché Hon. Nasser Mustafa.

Scholarship program is also sponsored by another group of recruitment agencies “FILASEAK” which will also sponsor half of the total number of scholars currently lined up to avail the program. Certificates are given at the end of one day course duly signed by the Masterchefs, Trainers and supported by sponsors.
“We can but hope that these ladies’ practice what they learn and someday build their own small business where they can acquire extra income for themselves and their families” commented Assistant Labor Attaché Duladul. FILCRO Officer Barrios thank the members of FILCRO for their generous support in helping these women achieve their dreams.
