The firefighting teams, according to a statement released by the Public Relations and Media Department of the Fire Brigade, responded to 147 separate reports of accidents during the weekend rains in various governorates, according to an Arab daily. The department added that the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Talal Al-Khaled was following up on the reports that were under the direct supervision of the Chief of the General Fire Brigade, Lieutenant-General Khaled Al-Makrad, and the Deputy Head of the Combat Sector, Major General Jamal Badr Nasser.
Based on the reports, several concentrated incidents occurred in some tunnels and roads across the country where there was severe flooding. The firefighting forces handled the flood through advanced hydraulic suction pumps and reopened the passages again in cooperation with relevant state ministries. The teams also dealt with floods in basements of several houses, and rescued a number of people trapped in their vehicles on various roads, in addition to responding to vehicle collisions, fires from electrical transformers and ground cables, as well as fallen trees. The victims called the emergency number 211 to seek assistance during the accidents. No injuries have been reported.
The security forces coordinated in clearing up the flooded roads and areas, including the Gamal Abdel Nasser road. The areas with the most reported accidents were in Jahra, Farwaniya, Al-Asimah and Hawalli.
