A Philippine housemaid fashioned a noose from her clothes and hung herself inside her employer’s house, Al Anba daily reported.

Upon being notified, police and forensic evidence officials went to the scene to investigate, where they found the 27-year-old servant, the report said.

On being questioned, the sponsor said that he did not notice that the housemaid was suffering from any problems and had not made any requests to go to her homeland.

Police recorded the incident as a suicide case.

There are around 250,000 Filipinos, mostly domestic workers, in Kuwait.

Samira Al Dosari, a social psychology consultant, explained the various motives for suicide, “[which] include financial pressure and crises gripping individuals from different nationalities amid the coronavirus pandemic,” she told Al Qabas. “Those individuals depend for their living on daily labour that has stopped because of the pandemic.”
